EMC UK 2006

The exhibition is close to sell out for the 3rd year running. The conference features 9 Modules and 28 papers over the two days, plus a keynote address by Andy Drozd, President of the IEEE EMC Society. The conference is not just about EMC, a complete Module is devoted to other relevant directives like WEEE, RoHS and EuP.
There are also free Workshops and EMC Basic Training sessions.

Chrysler
Engineering Standards Now Encrypted
As of 28th June this year all ESSD documents from Chrysler will be
encrypted. If you use these you'll need to download a plug-in to enable
you to decrypt these Adobe documents on receipt. All customers should have
received an e-mail with instructions but if not please contact your ESSD agent

MIRA opens Heavy Vehicle Semi-Anechoic EMC Chamber
HVSAC, the UK's first independent absorber-lined EMC facility with a 70-Ton floor loading capacity was formally opened on the 4th July by the Director General of the Defence Manufacturers Association (DMA), Major General Alan Sharman CBE.

3C Test Official Opening
As reported last time, 3C Test Ltd's move to Silverstone is now complete and on 7th September the officially opening will be performed by Sir Jackie Stewart. The Automotive EMC Network hope to be there and will give a brief report on the event in the next newsletter.

Continental take over Motorolas' Automotive Business for $1Billion
Our rumour of late last year proved true, despite insistences from Motorola that there was no foundation in it when we published in December 2005. This marks the end of Motorola's tradition in automotive electronics, in fact it's where the "Motor" part of the companys' name comes from. I doubt it will be rebranding itself "Phoneorola" anytime soon, but the "Motor" part certainly no longer has anything to do with the company's ongoing business. We wish all the ex-Motorolan's who are transferring to Continental good luck, at least the new company is fully focused on the Automotive market and should be able to exploit the talents of the engineers better than Motorola were able.
4-Point Seat Belts: The Next Big Thing?
Ford Motor Company in the US is researching two advanced safety belt technologies in response to the changing demographics of the driving population. The company says seat belts remain the most important vehicle safety technology.

Articles and papers from the Engineering Society’s bi-annual journal, Engineering Integrity, are now available to download via the online research resource, IngentaConnect. This service will be free to all, opening online access to published papers on matters of engineering progress and development to a worldwide audience. Users will be able to download any paper published in Engineering Integrity since 2003.
