WASHINGTON,
DC, MAY 16 -- ACIL is launching the fifth cycle of its EMC round robin program.
This is an inter-laboratory comparison program utilizing a test artifact for the
comparison of radiated emissions measured on an Open Area Test Site in the
frequency range of 1 – 18 GHz. The test artifact is a comb generator,
providing narrowband emissions at fixed intervals from 1 to 18 GHz and beyond.
Emissions measurements above 1 GHz are increasingly common with the advent of
fast processors and wireless devices in the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands.
The
cycle is intended for:
(1)
any
laboratory interested in utilizing an inter-laboratory comparison program to
assure the quality of test results in accordance with 5.9 of ISO/IEC 17025,
(2)
test
laboratories that participated in the prior 1-18 GHz study and that wish
tore-visit some of their measurements based on the published data, and
(3)
test
laboratories that did not participate in the prior study and that wish to
identify and reduce their sources of measurement error.
ACIL
round robin programs involve circulating a calibrated test item successively
from one lab to another. Each round robin cycle is limited to a group of ten
laboratories. Upon completion of the 10 laboratory cycle, program results will
be compiled and published by ACIL with the identity of each individual
participating laboratory remaining confidential.
ACIL’s
program is operated in accordance with ISO/IEC Guide 43-1, Proficiency
testing by inter-laboratory comparisons – Part 1: Development and operation of
proficiency testing schemes. Interlaboratory comparison or round robin
programs are stipulated in ISO 17025 as one method of assuring the quality of
test results. Both NVLAP and A2LA require accredited laboratories to participate
in such programs where they exist.
The
cost is $800 for ACIL members and $1500 for non-members, payable at the time of
registration. The test object will be available for week-long testing beginning
on May 16, 2005.
